How Are Gapped Teeth Treated?
Closing tooth gaps can be addressed depending on the underlying cause. Orthodontic treatment like braces or invisible aligners may be recommended to gradually move the teeth and close the gaps. Dental bonding or veneers could also be options to reshape the teeth and improve the gaps. In cases where an abnormal frenum attachment is the issue, a simple surgical procedure known as a frenectomy may be performed to release the tissue and close the gap.
Urgent Family Dentistry Reviews
Best service around. I was having an issue with a tooth that needed an immediate root canal. Urgent Family Dental made sure to go above and beyond to fix my problem! Thanks again.
Would absolutely recommend Dr. Hamdan and his great team at Urgent Family Dentistry! My boyfriend had a root canal abscess that seemingly popped up over the course of two days. It was a Saturday night and we felt pressed for time given the potential severity. I called Urgent Family Dentistry as soon as they opened on Sunday and was given a same-day appointment on the spot. We arrived at 12:50 for a 1pm appointment, filled out the paperwork, got in the chair within 5 minutes, and we were out the door within 15 after that. The young man that helped get his x-rays done was so kind and made my boyfriend, who is usually quite anxious about dental work, feel very comfortable. Dr. Hamdan was very kind and welcoming, and providing a detailed referral to an excellent and highly-rated endodontist immediately upon seeing my boyfriend’s tooth. The staff were all kind and patient, and Dr. Hamdan in particular is very gifted at what he does and was very thorough both with the examination and with helping his staff. We hope we will not run into a dental emergency again, but if we do, we will surely come here to see Dr. Hamdan and his staff again. Thanks y’all <3
Dr. Oveida was wonderful. I have a fear of dentists and she put me at ease. She was very gentle and kind. She explained everything she was doing step by step as to not surprise me. She didn't try to pressure me into other procedures. No scare tactics. I felt no post op pain. Her assistant was funny trying to minimize my fear. I received a phone call the following day to make sure I was OK. The cost was very reasonable unlike another dental practice named after the 3rd US president. Thank you again Dr. Oveida and Urgent Family Denistry.
Knowledgeable, Kind, & Compassionate Dentist - Dr. Hamdan is an excellent dentist. He is knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. His entire office staff explained, in detail, what services were being provided. Everyone was very welcoming and kind - from the front staff to the dental assistant throughout my treatment. Dr. Hamdan was able to see me quickly. I went in with an acute issue, which was promptly treated. He took his time, ensuring that the dental work performed was of the highest quality. Upon completion, he performed additional x-rays to confirm that everything looked as it should. I would highly recommend Dr. Hamdan and his practice.
I went several years ago, my husband needed his wisdom teeth extracted urgently, and despite having issues with my dental insurance and a bit of back and forth, everything was taken care of. Dr. Hamdan was honest, did not feel like he was trying to up-sell or up-charge us, and took care of my husbands teeth. His personality is a little quirky, I'll admit. But he didn't make us feel uncomfortable or inappropriate. He mentioned other things that need to get taken care of while checking his teeth. For the first time in a long time though, a Dr. did not feel like a sales shark. It was a little nerve wracking watching his teeth get extracted as sometimes a lot of force seemed to be needed, but he took care of my husband. We had no issues with recovery afterwards. He was very efficient and quick as well. I didn't feel like we spent hours just waiting around. We were taken care of promptly, on a Saturday/Sunday morning as a walk-in.They also called to check on us the day after, which I felt was pretty personal and appreciated.

What Causes Gapped Teeth?
Spaces between teeth can be caused by various factors such as genetics, misaligned jaw or tooth size, habits like thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting, gum issues, or tooth loss. Abnormal frenum attachment may also contribute to the development of gaps. Regardless of the reason for your spacing issues, a dental professional can develop a personalized treatment plan to address your concerns and achieve your desired results.
What Are The Symptoms Of Gapped Teeth?
Gaps between teeth can have a negative impact on a person's self-esteem and dental well-being. In addition to the noticeable gaps, individuals with tooth spaces may experience challenges with speaking clearly, chewing food properly, and have an increased likelihood of developing dental issues such as decay or gum disease due to food accumulation in the gaps.

Gapped Teeth FAQs
Can gapped teeth cause oral health issues beyond appearance?
Yes. While many people seek treatment for gapped teeth for cosmetic reasons, gaps can also contribute to oral health problems. Food particles may become trapped in the spaces, leading to plaque buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease. Additionally, gaps can affect bite alignment, potentially causing uneven wear on teeth or jaw discomfort.
Will my child's gapped teeth close naturally over time?
In many cases, yes. Gaps in children's teeth often close as their permanent teeth erupt and their jaws develop. However, if gaps persist into adolescence or are accompanied by other dental issues, it's advisable to consult a dentist or orthodontist for evaluation.
Can habits like thumb sucking cause gaps in teeth?
Yes. Prolonged thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, or using a pacifier beyond infancy can exert pressure on the front teeth, pushing them forward and creating gaps.
Are gapped teeth a cosmetic issue or a dental concern?
Gapped teeth are often viewed as a cosmetic concern, but they can also impact oral health. Gaps may allow food and plaque to collect more easily, increasing the risk of gum irritation or decay. Our team at Urgent Family Dentistry in Plano, TX evaluates both appearance and function when discussing gapped teeth treatment options.
Is treatment for gapped teeth permanent?
Results can be long-lasting when treatment is paired with proper dental care and, when needed, retainers or follow-up visits. Our team at Urgent Family Dentistry focuses on solutions that support stability, function, and aesthetics to help patients maintain their results.
When should I see a dentist about gapped teeth?
A dental visit is recommended if gaps affect your confidence, trap food, or seem to be getting larger over time. Early evaluation allows our team approach to identify the cause and recommend appropriate teeth gap treatment before additional concerns develop.
