Tooth discoloration is a common dental issue caused by various factors. While some may associate stained teeth with poor oral hygiene, the truth is even individuals with good oral habits can experience discoloration. Factors such as smoking, aging, genetics, and certain medications can contribute to discolored teeth. If you're dealing with stained teeth, reach out to Urgent Family Dentistry. Lifestyle changes or professional teeth whitening treatments may greatly improve the appearance of your smile. Our Plano, TX dental professionals can identify the cause of your tooth discoloration and create a personalized whitening plan for optimal results.

There are several options available to improve tooth discoloration. The most popular methods include teeth whitening, dental bonding, veneers, and dental crowns. Teeth whitening involves using a bleaching agent to remove surface discoloration, either in-office or with take-home kits. Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored material to cover yellowing or darkening on the teeth. Veneers are custom coverings applied to the front of the teeth to enhance their appearance. Dental crowns, on the other hand, are caps placed over the entire tooth to improve its appearance and provide protection against further damage.

Would absolutely recommend Dr. Hamdan and his great team at Urgent Family Dentistry! My boyfriend had a root canal abscess that seemingly popped up over the course of two days. It was a Saturday night and we felt pressed for time given the potential severity. I called Urgent Family Dentistry as soon as they opened on Sunday and was given a same-day appointment on the spot. We arrived at 12:50 for a 1pm appointment, filled out the paperwork, got in the chair within 5 minutes, and we were out the door within 15 after that. The young man that helped get his x-rays done was so kind and made my boyfriend, who is usually quite anxious about dental work, feel very comfortable. Dr. Hamdan was very kind and welcoming, and providing a detailed referral to an excellent and highly-rated endodontist immediately upon seeing my boyfriend’s tooth. The staff were all kind and patient, and Dr. Hamdan in particular is very gifted at what he does and was very thorough both with the examination and with helping his staff. We hope we will not run into a dental emergency again, but if we do, we will surely come here to see Dr. Hamdan and his staff again. Thanks y’all <3

Dr. Oveida was wonderful. I have a fear of dentists and she put me at ease. She was very gentle and kind. She explained everything she was doing step by step as to not surprise me. She didn't try to pressure me into other procedures. No scare tactics. I felt no post op pain. Her assistant was funny trying to minimize my fear. I received a phone call the following day to make sure I was OK. The cost was very reasonable unlike another dental practice named after the 3rd US president. Thank you again Dr. Oveida and Urgent Family Denistry.

Several factors can cause teeth to appear yellow, including:

  • Lifestyle habits such as smoking or using tobacco, and regularly drinking coffee, tea, red wine, or soda
  • Poor oral hygiene, which can lead to plaque and tartar buildup
  • Certain medications, including antihistamines, antibiotics, and blood pressure medications
  • Aging, as the enamel naturally wears down over time and exposes the yellowish dentin underneath
  • Genetics, since some individuals naturally have darker or thinner enamel

Tooth discoloration is the most common symptom of stained teeth, often appearing yellow, brown, or dark in color. Those with this issue may feel self-conscious about their smiles, leading them to avoid smiling or laughing in front of others.
